Los Angeles Dodgers (19-13) At Florida Marlins (14-17), 7:05 P.m.
(Sports Network) - Left-hander Mark Hendrickson has a tough act to follow when his Los Angeles Dodgers play the second contest of a four-game series this evening against the Florida Marlins at Dolphin Stadium. Hendrickson is slated to take the hill one day after Brad Penny dominated the Marlins over seven shutout innings in a 6-1 victory. Penny struck out a career-high 14 batters and scattered five hits over the frames. Even more impressive, Penny (4-0) did not issue a single walk against his former club and even drove in a pair of runs. Rudy Seanez finished off the game by giving up a run in two innings of relief. Jeff Kent homered and scored twice for the Dodgers, who had lost two of three coming in but improved to 11-6 on the road with the win. Russell Martin had a pair of hits and scored two runs, Andre Ethier singled and scored a run, and Andy LaRoche drove in a pair. So Hendrickson will aim to duplicate Penny's success in the series opener. The left-hander makes his fourth start of the season in place of the injured Jason Schmidt, who is still sidelined with right shoulder inflammation. Hendrickson made three relief appearances before being shuffled into the rotation and has been solid since the move. He is 2-0 over his three starts and has yet to allow more than one run in any of his outings this season. He was last in action on Wednesday when he hurled six shutout innings against the Diamondbacks, yielding only three hits with seven strikeouts, lowering his season earned run average to 1.30. He is 1-1 with a 7.36 ERA in four career starts against the Marlins, however. Wes Obermueller makes his third start of the season for Florida, and fourth overall appearance tonight. The right-hander lost his last start of the season back on April 29 against the Phillies to fall to 1-1 after allowing three runs and five hits in 5 2/3 frames. He then made a three-inning relief appearance against the Mets on Wednesday, walking just one batter with no hits and three strikeouts. Obermueller has just one career start against the Dodgers and was hammered for five runs on five hits and three walks in only 2 2/3 frames to earn the defeat. He will try to fare batter than Ricky Nolasco (1-1), who was touched up for 10 hits and six runs over six innings, striking out four and walking a pair in yesterday's setback. Dan Uggla hit his sixth homer of the season for the Marlins, losers of three straight and four of five. Miguel Cabrera was the only starter not to strikeout against Penny, while Mike Jacobs went down on strikes three times. The Marlins fell to 8-10 as the host this season. The Dodgers swept a three-game series in Florida last year, and won the first five matchups of the series in 2006 before dropping the finale in LA.
