Video: Juvy Court Clerk Says He'll Fight Charges

Nashville's juvenile court clerk took a step toward legal redemption on Tuesday as he battled a contempt charge that was recently filed against him.

Vic Lineweaver is in the process of restoring his image after a series of stories from the Channel 4 I-team.

The court clerk now has a lawyer and a public relations firm helping to elevate his public image.

However, Tuesday's hearing was postponed for a few minutes because none of the files coming from Lineweaver's office were ready.

Then, the judge hearing Lineweaver's own case had trouble finding the appeal in Lineweaver's own file.

Even though Lineweaver's office is responsible for posting people's names on dockets, his own name was absent.

But Lineweaver's attorney Jim Stranch plowed forward in the case and successfully got Judge Betty Green to recuse herself from the case. She has spoken out publicly about her disappointment in Lineweaver's office.

"He's not guilty of contempt. It's as simple as that," said Stranch,

The lawyer argued that Lineweaver never willingly failed to produce files and truly only lost one.

When asked about the conflict between judges and Lineweaver's own office, the lawyer voiced his opinion.

"This is me talking. I think it's disruptive for the whole juvenile justice system quite frankly," said Stranch.

Lineweaver was part of a Channel 4 I-Team investigation in February.

WSMV's cameras trailed Lineweaver for seven randomly chosen days in which payroll shows him working 56 hours, but the I-Team found him out of the office for 28 of those hours.

Lineweaver also said he comes to his office at odd hours to do things such as get a file for police. He said he keeps a log of the days he's sick, but he does not share that with the city's payroll.
