NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Embattled Metro Juvenile Court Clerk Vic Lineweaver was asked again about missing files on Thursday at a budget hearing.
Watch This StoryThe hearing was in front of the City Council, and council members wanted to know why there are so many complaints against Lineweaver’s office.Channel 4’s Jeremy Finley reported that when asked about the files, Lineweaver was cryptic. When Lineweaver finished his budget proposal, the council started asking questions about his office’s problems.Last week, the I-Team reported that 20 more filed had gone missing this year. The files are needed by foster care review boards.Lineweaver’s solution was a new barcode system at a cost of $63,000, but council members were not sold on his idea."(That’s) something that is out there that’s a nice thing to have, but not necessarily essential to have," said a council member."Would having this system have helped you keep track of the files that have been missing?" Finley asked Lineweaver."Yes, sir," Lineweaver said.Lineweaver said last week that he didn’t know about the 20 missing files until the I-Team told him about them. He said the files are no longer missing."They was found that day in 20 minutes," Lineweaver said."So what was the problem?" Finley asked."It was found in 20 minutes," Lineweaver said."So why did those boards not have them when they needed them?" Finley said."I don’t want to get into that, Jeremy," Lineweaver said."You got a problem in your office?" Finley said."No, sir," he said.Council members directed Lineweaver to go and compare other cities that are similar in size to Nashville to see if they are using the proposed barcode system in their juvenile court clerks’ offices.Lineweaver said he’d get back to the council on the issue.
