Vic Lineweaver Says Officer Needs Money For New Employees, Car

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The embattled juvenile court clerk of Davidson County told the mayor on Tuesday that he's doing a good job.

The reports came after Lineweaver was placed under arrest six months ago after being accused of poor job performance.One day, Lineweaver was found at home in his robe getting his newspaper during hours that he was supposed to be working. He told the I-Team’s Jeremy Finley that he was at a meeting.He appeared in front of Dean at a budget hearing on Tuesday to plead his office’s case.“Despite some recent misleading reports in the media, we are very proud of the improvements we have made in our office,” Lineweaver said.He said his office is doing such good work his office needs more money to hire more staff and buy a part-time car to help deliver dockets and visit schools. The office already has one car.“It is critical that the clerk’s office receive adequate funding,” Lineweaver told Dean.He also said his office is doing a better job of organizing files, despite complaints found by the I-Team. One woman’s lawyers have asked the district attorney to investigate Lineweaver and another has filed a lawsuit against him claiming his office’s ineptitude prevented her from filing a petition in a custody battle.Lineweaver said he needs more money for a bar-coding system for files.“Once you take that file out of our system, it will let us know where the file is throughout the building,” he said.Lineweaver invited Dean and his staff to visit his office to see the improvements.“We’d like to invite you mayor, and your staff, to come and visit and see for yourself the role that our hardworking staff that are making, improving the juvenile justice system in Davidson County,” he said.Dean didn’t make any criticisms about Lineweaver on Tuesday and only listened to his budget requests. Lineweaver said his office needs two new employees and can’t afford any budget cuts.
