Health insurance can mean the difference between an affordable doctor's bill and one that a patient has to spend a considerable amount of time having to pay off.

When two insurance companies could not decide which one should cover a Hickman County family's bills, the family called Channel 4's Chris Tatum for help.

Raymond Wilson does his best to take care of his family, especially his wife, so he makes sure she has the best health insurance he can afford.

"We been trusting HealthSpring for almost four years," said Wilson.

But last November, he claims another company convinced him to change his policy.

"This lady came out and said we could keep our own doctors and get free medication,” said Wilson.

A few days later he learned his doctor wasn't on that new company's plan and called to cancel his policy.

He said a representative assured him she'd cancel it right away, so he paid his premiums to his old company, HealthSpring.

But last week when he went to fill a prescription, the pharmacist gave him a surprise.

"They said ya'll don't have HealthSpring anymore," said Wilson.

It turns out that once he signed on with the other company, HealthSpring dropped him.

Wilson called both companies to fix his problem, but said he felt entangled in red tape.

"I knew if I called Chris Tatum that we could get this thing straightened out," said Wilson.

Channel 4 played phone tag all week with that other company, but right away HealthSpring went to work for the Wilsons and then sent Tatum an e-mail to tell Channel 4 what it had done.

It plans to re-enroll the Wilsons effective March 1 and then roll their coverage back to the first of the year to cover any doctor bills they may have run up since then.
