NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A new study is under way at Vanderbilt University Medical Center that could help prevent or delay diabetes.Researchers are trying to find out how a common high blood pressure medication, Ramipril, could help with type 2 diabetes. They are looking for people between the ages of 20 and 65 who are at risk for diabetes and high blood pressure.Appropriate study candidates are age 20 to 65, who are at risk for diabetes or have been told they have borderline diabetes/hypertension, and not currently taking any medications for diabetes and high blood pressure."We are looking for individuals with elevated blood glucose, but not to the point of having diabetes, and who also have elevated blood pressure. These are the folks who are headed toward diabetes but they don't have it yet," said Dr. Stephen Davis, chief of the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at VUMC and lead investigator of the study. For more information on the study, call 615-936-1824.
