Sgt. Thomas Molnar said the bus ran off the side of the road, overturned and came to a rest on its right side at about 8:15 a.m. Friday on Interstate 85 about 40 miles south of Richmond. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The driver of the bus, 53-year-old William Douglas, of Austin, Texas, was killed in the wreck.

The bus was one of four that transport crew members to and from the singer's concerts. The vehicle was carrying production crew members and had as many as 15 people on board when the wreck occurred.

Hours after the crash, the Cyrus family posted a message on Miley's Web site noting that workers on their tour are like members of their family and thoughts and prayers go out to the driver's family.

The bus was operated by Springfield, Tenn. based Roberts Brother Coach.

The company had another wreck several months ago where two people were injured, but overall, the company's safety record is good, according to federal records.

According to Miley's Web site, the pop singer is scheduled to perform Sunday in Greensboro, N.C.

Miley is the daughter of country star Billy Ray Cyrus, who also appears on the family-friendly sitcom "Hannah Montana."
