Police said Calvin Hutton Houghland grabbed Cher by the waist around 12:50 a.m. as she was sitting in a roped off area of Tootsies Orchid Lounge on Broadway.

The suspect is the grandson of one of the co-founders of Nashville's Iroquois Steeplechase.

After Houghland was escorted out of the building, he returned again and reportedly approached Cher in an aggressive manner, according to a police media release.

Security at Tootsies blocked Houghland's advances, and that's when he called police to report that he had been assaulted.

When officers arrived, they determined that Cher was the one who was actually assaulted by Houghland when he grabbed her by the waist.

The 62-year-old entertainer has declined to prosecute, but Houghland faces disorderly conduct and public intoxication charges. His bond has been set at $3,000.

The manager of Tooties said Houghland was not man handled by security but was politely escorted out of the club.

Cher was in town to see country artist John Stone perform.
