NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The state report card came out Tuesday, and Nashville schools received Cs and Ds.
The Tennessee Department of Education released the annual comprehensive report card for pre-K through 12th grade. The report includes statewide information, as well as ratings for different districts and grade levels. It focuses on issues such as achievement, demographics and discipline.According to the Department of Education, this year's report is a little different. The scale used to determine all grades A through F has been changed dramatically, meaning scores considered to be an A in past years may now be a B or C.School districts are looking at achievement scores and value added scores, the second of which measures students' year-to-year growth.Statewide, school districts received a B in achievement for Kindergarten to eighth grades and a C for value added.Metro received straight Ds in achievement and straight Cs for value added."My concern is that we're playing catch up. We don't want our students to be performing at a D level," said Metro Schools Director Dr. Jesse Register. "What we're focusing on now, we're really spending a lot of time now looking at value added data."Williamson County students scored straight As in all categories. Rutherford County also got perfect marks. Wilson County received three Bs and an A, and Sumner County got all As and a B.According to the report card, Tennessee ranks first in the south in improving its graduation rates.
