After high school, North graduated from Georgetown University in Washington D.C., where he was a four year starter on the football team and Captain of the team his senior year.

It was at Georgetown that he met and married Kristin and their son Anthony was born.

In 1991, Mark graduated with honors from Pepperdine Law School where he was Articles Editor of the Pepperdine Law Review.

Since graduation from Pepperdine he has practiced law in Nashville and Madison with his father, Steve North.

"My parents felt strongly that the public school system offered me an opportunity to get a quality education and the diversity of public schools would prepare me for adult life." Mark says.

"They were right, so my wife and I have sent our three children to Metro public schools."

"I know many changes have occurred since my student days, but I believe that achieving the goal of a quality education for every child is within our reach. It will, however, require a high level of community support and a board willing to make the tough decisions."
