DICKSON, Tenn. -- Firefighters said a house explosion and fire in Dickson Tuesday morning was likely caused by a damaged gas line that crews thought had been fixed.
Channel 4 recorded video from our helicopter, Air 4, which showed fire and heavy black smoke that completely consumed the home.Firefighters said the family that lived at the house was not at home when the explosion occurred at 10 a.m.
Authorities said the home owner somehow damaged the gas line on Monday night and thought he had fixed the problem. After the gas explosion occurred, firefighters said they had to step back from the house because ammunition that was stored inside the house was going off from fire.“We received reports upon arrival that the house did have some (legal) ammunition in it. There were several explosions when we arrived,” said Capt. Richard Ruma of the Dickson Fire Department. One neighbor, Hazel Peters, 84, was taken to the hospital because she was shaken up from the blast. Her house suffered broken windows and siding damage from the nearby blast.
