Area Students Diagnosed With MRSA

DICKSON, Tenn. -- Two Dickson County students have been diagnosed with the staph infection known as MRSA.One of the children goes to school at Dickson County High School, while the other attends Charlotte Elementary. Two other cases are suspected at the elementary school as well.Letters have been sent home to parents notifying them of the cases, but the principal said families should not be alarmed.In Cheatham County, a Pleasant View Elementary student was treated for staph and returned to school this week.
Doctors said good hygiene is the key to preventing the infections.According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, MRSA infections typically appear as a skin infection, most often with a cut.Davidson, Williamson, and Rutherford counties have all reported isolated cases at schools this year.
