Hundreds of people filled a west Nashville church Tuesday to bid farewell to longtime WSMV-TV anchor Dan Miller.

Eulogies were given at the service by Miller's brother, Lynwood, former WSMV General Manager Mike Kettenring and Miller's best friends, Pat Sajak and Rudy Kalis.

The service at Westminster Presbyterian had tears but was filled with laughs as each speaker shared favorite Miller stories.

Throughout the morning, countless Channel 4 staff, past and present, gathered to remember and mourn.

Among those in attendance was Vince Gill, who sang a soulful song in memory of Miller, Amy Grant, Faith Hill, John Tesh and U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn.

"He learned how to French braid his daughter's hair. He's a real guy, and that's what everybody loved about him," said former WSMV-TV news director Al Tompkins. "He was funny, but not silly. He had a great sense of humor."

Many at the service agreed that no one can teach Miller's ability to connect with viewers. He was known as a natural broadcaster and communicator but also quite a cut-up.

Tesh started in television at Channel 4 as a 21-year-old reporter.

"He lived every day looking for the joke, and you don't expect that from your anchorman," said Tesh. "There are people who come into your life and have a huge impact, and Dan Miller was that for me. It's like somebody pulling the plug on all of us."
