A Murfreesboro man hopes he can step in to fill a small part of the void left when a child loses a parent.

Daryl Mackin was in the Navy and has formed a group to give birthday gifts to the children of America's fallen servicemen and women.

Mackin was inspired by Christian Golczynski, the young son of Staff Sgt. Marc Golczynski, whose picture taken at his father's funeral was an emotional moment.

"He will never have another birthday party or gift from his father, and likewise his father will not be able to give his son a gift. So, it was out of that that I just kind of felt like we needed to do something about that," said Mackin

The group is called A Soldier's Child Birthday Foundation. The organizations has just started, and they said they aren't able to accept donations yet.
