  • A public forum will be held at the Hendersonville Public Library on July 2, 2009 from 7 to 8 p.m. for patients, family and healthcare professionals to share and discuss issues to obtain and care for acute/chronic mental illness or brain disorders.
    The library is located at 140 Saundersville Road in Hendersonville, Tenn.

  • This year for the Fourth of July, you can celebrate Independence Day and help fight cystic fibrosis at the same time! Host a pool party at your house, and simply collect donations from people that come.
    Everyone is encouraged to wear their best patriotic outfits or red, white, and blue swimsuits. Sixty percent of the money you raise will remain in your local community by supporting your CF Care Center. The remaining will support research and other CF causes. Pool party hosts and people wearing patriotic clothing are eligible to earn great prizes for hosting events and posting pictures on the BioGuard Splash for CF Website.   • Nashville's third annual Music City Hot Chicken Festival. This free event will be held at East Nashville's East Park on July 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    It's a great opportunity to eat some chicken and support a worthy cause, Friends of Shelby Park. Free samples are given to the first 500 festival goers. The amateur Hot Chicken cooking contest will be judged by Mayor Karl Dean and country music singer Lorrie Morgan. Honorary chairpersons of this year's Festival are former Nashville mayor and festival founder Bill Purcell, Nashville Vice Mayor Diane Neighbors, and Andre Prince of Prince's Hot Chicken Shack .

  • NANA Day is a celebration by local fans of all things related to NANA, including music, food, punk, anime, Japanese culture, and romance!
    The event will be held July 7 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Sonobana Restaurant & Grocery at 40 White Bridge Rd., Nashville, TN 37205. NANA is a manga by beloved artist/writer Yazawa Ai, which revolves around two very different girls named Nana who happen to meet on the train to Tokyo. They split up when they get to Tokyo but become fast friends after meeting again when they both attempt to rent the same apartment: #707, which is why fans across the world always hold various NANA Day events on July 7. NANA has spawned more that 20 volumes of manga, anime, two live-action movies, two official drink recipes (one for each Nana), and a wide variety of both official and bootleg products.   • Rebel Hill Florist will host the American Red Cross Bloodmobile on Thursday, July 9, 2009, from 2 to 7 p.m.
    Anyone coming to Rebel Hill to donate blood that afternoon will receive one dozen roses as a thank you gift from Rebel Hill Florist for sharing the gift of life.

  • Sport Support Equipment Event will be Saturday, July 11, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 5827 Charlotte Pike in front of Neptune Diving and Ski.
    This will be a community and fundraising event where attendees can purchase sports equipment for an extremely low price and support a local non-profit. Items that will be available include: soccer balls, basketballs, golf balls and clubs, baseball/softball equipment and balls, ski/snowboard equipment and clothing, tennis rackets, and hockey equipment and clothing, just to name a few.

  • Monday, July 13, 2009, at Bumpus Harley-Davidson in Murfreesboro, Tenn., for 'Hitmakers and Harleys', a benefit to raise money for the Darryl Worley Foundation.
    Attendees will enjoy food and drink while listening to Worley and a few of his songwriter friends entertain everyone in a quaint, comfortable setting. The Darryl Worley Foundation is a 501 ©3 public benefit corporation organized in 2002 to help serve the needs of the people of Tennessee, the MidSouth and Tri-State areas. The Darryl Worley Foundation, Inc. also supports St. Jude Children’s Medical Center and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. In addition, it helps fund and support the newly created Darryl Worley Cancer Treatment Center.   • Nashville Adult Literacy Council One-on-One Volunteer Tutor Training Session to be held on Saturday, July 18 from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
    The Nashville Adult Literacy Council needs one-on-one volunteer tutors to help teach English-speaking adults how to read and English to adult immigrants. We ask volunteers for a six-month minimum commitment with a weekly time commitment of 3 hours. Volunteers will meet continuously with the same student and meeting times/locations are based upon your availability. The next volunteer tutor training session will be held at the Cohn Adult Learning Center, 4805 Park Ave. in Nashville, on Saturday, July 18 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Volunteer tutors will be matched with an adult learner based on schedule and location preferences. A one-day training is required and no teaching experience is necessary, but you must be at least 18 years of age.   • The 4th Annual Eva Beach Music Festival and Cruise In will be held Saturday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eva Beach is located approx. 7 miles from Camden, Tennessee in Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park.
    From I-40 take Exit 126 to Camden. From Camden court square follow signs to the park’s day use area. Admission is free and there will be food, fun, arts and crafts, silent auction and games, including a "Minnow" Race! Music will include bluegrass, gospel, country, rockabilly and Celtic.   • Saint Patrick's Parish in McEwen, Tenn., will hold its 155th annual Irish Picnic & Homecoming this Friday and Saturday, July 24-25.
    On Friday, we will have barbecued chicken halves available at Noon and 5 p.m. (3,600 halves total!). A silent auction will be held from 3-8 p.m. Music and game booths from 5 to 11 p.m. On Saturday, our famous pork barbecue will be available at 7 a.m., by the pound or whole shoulder. An Outdoor Mass will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the bandstand area. Barbecue plate lunches and suppers will be available at 10 a.m. Music and game booths begin at 10 a.m. until 11 p.m.

  • 75th Anniversary Celebration for the Cumberland Homesteads Community will be held at the Homesteads Tower Museum at 11 a.m. on July 25.
    A reenactment of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt's 1934 visit to the community will be one of the highlights of the event. The actress playing the part of Mrs. Roosevelt will be speaking from the back of a vintage lumber truck along with other guest speakers. Depression-era food and music will be part of the event, as well as book signings by local authors. The Homesteads Tower Museum will have Open House. The public is invited and encouraged to dress in vintage Depression-era clothing and bring chairs. There is no admission charge and parking is free at Homesteads Elementary School. Location: Junction of U.S. 127S and State Route 68, four miles south of Crossville, Tenn.

  • The Cheatham County Animal Awareness Foundation (CCAAF), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is hosting a county-wide flea market at Pegram Park, Rte. 70 in Pegram, on Saturday, July 25 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    Some items available include designer clothing, pottery, and furniture. There will be dogs from Cheatham County Animal Control available for adoption. CCAAF's mission is to find responsible homes for adoptable animals being held at the Cheatham County Animal Control; help to control overpopulation through spay/neuter assistance; and provide a comfortable place for the animals at animal control.   • On July 25, youth football players from Nashville and surrounding cities are invited to attend a free half-day clinic at the John Rich Complex at Vanderbilt University, as part of NCAA Football’s national youth initiative in partnership with the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl. This clinic, one of nine free clinics NCAA Football is hosting across the nation, will be led by coaches and student-athletes from Middle Tennessee, Tennessee State University, Vanderbilt University, West Georgia and Western Kentucky University. Participants will enjoy on-field agility drills, offensive and defensive training, and off-field character development. Registration will be open to the first 200 youth attendees ages 14 and under.   • First United Methodist Church in Clarksville will host its monthly coffeehouse performance on Sunday, July 26 at 4 p.m.
    The featured artists for July is the Clarksville-based group The Crossland Trio. This group {Mike and Yvonne Bell, & Jo Roberts} has been performing for two years and has appeared at weddings, church events, funerals, revivals, and health care centers. Recently they performed live on XM Radio. Their musical genre is Old Time Gospel and has been influenced by such artists as the original Carter Family, the Chuck Wagon Gang, Ralph Stanley, and Flatt & Scruggs. Admission is free but a love offering will be taken. First United Methodist Church is located at 909 Madison Street in Clarksville.
