  • Catfish Rodeo and Water Festival will be held June 6, 2009, on Lake Sevier at Shelby Bottoms Park at 7 a.m. Registration is free.
    This free family festival is all about connecting children to local waters. The Cumberland River Compact and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency partner each June to offer middle Tennessee youth the opportunity to fish for free. No experience is necessary. The day involves 2,000 pounds of catfish stocked in Lake Sevier, educational booths and activities which involve fishing, scavenger hunts, boating and water education activities that all ages can enjoy.

  • Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Rutherford County Alumnae Chapter and Bradley Academy will host the seventh annual Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 6, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    This event will be held at Bradley Academy in Murfreesboro. Juneteenth Festivities are held in many major cities and towns in the United States and foreign countries and provide a range of activities and entertainment for the masses to attend. People of all nationalities, ethnicities and religion join hands to acknowledge a period in our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today. The Juneteenth celebration will provide many opportunities to taste great food, tour the museum, enjoy live entertainment, shop with vendors and experience fellowship with all those who attend.

  • The "5th Annual Byron De'Vinner Foundation Football League Football Camp" will be held Saturday June 6, 2009, at Riverdale High School Football Complex from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    The mission of the foundation is to allow kids throughout the Southeast the opportunity to excel, whether in sports or in the classroom. Through positive examples, we want to create better opportunities for kids to succeed in life. The camp will allow several youths from age 5 to rising seniors to learn and develop the basic skills and concepts of football, teamwork and the importance of education with a commitment to character building for our youths. Lunch will be served for all campers. There will also be a silent auction. The cost for the camp is $45.   • Members of Omega Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. cordially invite the public to the 5th Annual "Ques for Christ" Revival.
    The revival will be June 8-12, 2009 at Community Baptist Church, 3838 Dickerson Pike, Nashville, Tennessee 37207. The revival's theme is "Fifth District Lifting Together as One". The revival's start time is 6 p.m. each night.

  • Book Release Event for Stan Hitchcock’s "At the corner of Music Row and Memory Lane" will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Ernest Tubb Record Shop No. 1 on 417 Broadway
    Event will also be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Ernest Tubb Record Shop No. 2 at 2416 Music Valley Dr. #110 (Near Opryland). Stan Hitchcock, the visionary behind CMT, the Americana Television Network, and BlueHighways TV has written an insightful memoir about the making of Nashville's Music Row. The event is free.

  • Jazzin' For Respite will be held June 11, 2009 at The Rhythm at 1510 Demonbreun Street.

Indulge at the 5th annual Jazzin' For Respite, a happy hour event to benefit the Tennessee Respite Coalition, high atop the amenity deck of the new Rhythm at Music Row. Once again, Brazilian jazz band Samba Nove will set the mood for the evening and entertain guests. Food will be provided exclusively by Watermark Restaurant and wine will be supplied by friends of West End Discount Liquors & Wine. A silent and live auction will also take place throughout the event. The event will offer a little "respite" to guests as we raise funds to offer respite, i.e. the gift of time, to caregivers who need temporary relief or time (to run necessary errands, visit their own doctor, etc.) from caring for relatives with special needs or medical conditions.

  • The youth ministries team of First Baptist Church of Murfreesboro are requesting the presence and participation of your youth at our Youth Weekend Workshops entitled "God's Gift to You!"
    We are asking that send your youth to participate on Thursday and Friday evening and our concert on Saturday night. The workshop is open to all youth entering Kindergarden-12th grade in the fall and we will be hosting workshops in the areas of dance, music, step, drama, writing, leadership, and community outreach. Anyone with youth that are interested in attending please have them fill out a registration forms and have them back to us no later than Friday, June 12, 2009, the first 100 youth to register will receive a free gift bag.   • There will be a Food Preservation (canning, freezing, and drying) class taught by University of Tennessee Extension Agent, Joan Wherley on Friday, June 12, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

  • 4th Annual Mount Juliet, Tenn., Star Singing Competition will hold auditions on June 13 at 4 p.m.
    The finale will be held June 19 at 7 p.m. at Providence Marketplace in Mt. Juliet. Do you think you can sing: Are you destined for greatness?   • Nashville Adult Literacy Council One-on-One Volunteer Tutor Training Session to be held on Saturday, June 13 from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
    The Nashville Adult Literacy Council needs one-on-one volunteer tutors to help teach English-speaking adults how to read and English to adult immigrants. We ask volunteers for a 6 month minimum commitment with a weekly time commitment of three hours. Volunteers will meet continuously with the same student and meeting times/locations are based upon your availability. The next volunteer tutor training session will be held at the Cohn Adult Learning Center, 4805 Park Ave. in Nashville, on Saturday, June 13 from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Volunteer tutors will be matched with an adult learner based on schedule and location preferences. A one-day training is required and no teaching experience is necessary, but you must be at least 18 years of age.   • A Trail Ride and Cook Out with Auction to follow trail ride on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Dave Coffey Farm on Coffey Road, Belfast, TN.
    The Trail Ride and Auction is to benefit a 6-year old girl (Ella Kate Brown & Family which consists of Todd (father), Sara (mother), sister Mia (3) and a new baby due in October). Ella was injured in a tragic accident on Saturday April 18 and was taken to Vanderbilt Children Hospital and placed in the PCCU unit in critical condition. She was pinned between two vehicles with serious trauma to chest and lungs, broken ribs on both sides, collar bone and an arm. Many lacerations and loss of her spleen coupled with deprivation of oxygen for an extended time made her condition touch and go. After 16 days in the Pediatric Care at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, she has been sent to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite for rehabilitation. The Trail Ride will start at 1 p.m. for $10 and/or make a donation. If unable to attend you can send a donation to the South Central Tennessee Development District mark check Ella Brown fund (mother Sara Brown is an employee at this office).   • The Petersburg Lions Club has a Bluegrass and Chicken Festival on June 13.
    fun begins at 11 a.m. and ends around 9 p.m. lots of activities for everyone. Some of the games are skillet toss, egg the hen house, chicken poop bingo, also contest like chicken leg beauty contest and chicken nugget eating contest. Money prizes!!   • Friends of Warner Parks announces the second Full Moon Pickin' Party of 2009 on Friday, June 12.
    This fundraiser features Middle Tennessee's finest bluegrass music under the light of a full moon. All of the monies raised from this laid-back affair will go directly back into the Parks to ensure preservation, protection, funding educational programs and special projects including camp-outs and hayrides for inner city kids. Musicians and music fans alike are invited to the Steeplechase Barn at the Equestrian Center (2500 Old Hickory Blvd.) in Percy Warner Park on June 12th for great music. Event willl be held from 7:00 to 11:00 pm. Cost is $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Children 6 and under free, $10 for 7-15 year olds.

  • "Living in Full Bloom," presented by Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center to celebrate cancer survivorship, will be held Sunday, June 14, 2009, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Vanderbilt Student Life Center, 310 25th Avenue South, Nashville.
    This free event is for everyone whose life has been impacted by cancer, including adult and pediatric survivors, family members, friends and medical professionals. The event includes a candle lighting ceremony by cancer survivors and stories from survivors. The keynote speaker is Brenda Elsagher, colorectal cancer survivor, comic and author. Music is by Benita Hill, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma survivor, singer and hit songwriter. Kids' indoor beach party and cake and punch reception. Free parking and shuttle service from 25th Avenue Garage.   • The cities of Millersville, Goodlettsville and the Stream Watch Committee are hosting a stream clean-up of Slater’s Creek on Saturday, June 20, 2009, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
    The staging area will be at Millersville’s Community Center. Gloves, bags, t-shirts, snacks, and the opportunity to help make a difference in your local community and watershed, are provided! Following the recent floods in mid-May, your community's stormwater departments are working together to clean up and maintain a portion of the area’s water resources, in part, through clean-up efforts of our local streams. Slater’s Creek, is an impaired urban stream that runs through Millersville and into Goodlettsville, and is in need of community action.   • Flotilla 11-05 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will be conducting a boating safety class on the June 20 at 8 a.m. at Woodmont Hills Family of God Church located at 3710 Franklin Road, Nashville.

  • Cancer survivors, family members and professional caregivers will have a chance to express their own deep feelings about living with cancer when their songs are performed, Friday, June 26, at 6:30 p.m., during the annual “Songs from the Heart” concert at Vanderbilt Student Life Center, 310 25th Avenue South, Nashville.
    Singer and songwriter Tricia Walker, with musical and vocal accompaniment by Bill Sinclair, will present the songs which spring from the complex emotions of those who are dealing with cancer. Anyone who has a cancer story to share is welcome to participate in the songwriting workshop a few days before the concert. They may do so by contacting Cindy Tinker, social worker with Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, at (615) 322-7459. A silent auction begins at 5:00 p.m., followed by the concert at 6:30 p.m., and a reception. The concert is free but donations are accepted and all proceeds will go to the Vanderbilt-Ingram Caring Hearts Fund, which was established in 2005 to assist patients with financial hardships that arise during their treatment.   • 5K race in Springfield on Sat., June 27 at Travis Price Park to help raise money to purchase a racing wheelchair for a local paraplegic teen Nick Reid, 19.

  • Halls Mill Tractor Pull will be held on June 27 at 5 p.m. Halls Mill Heritage Days will be hosting a world class antique and hot farm tractor pull.

  • Third Annual Stone Soul Picnic and Radio-Thon will be held Sunday, June 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Centennial Park, West End at 25th Ave., Nashville, TN 37203.
    This free event is open to the public and will include food from Famous Dave's Bar-B-Q and activities for all ages. The picnic will feature entertainment from jazz and R&B artist Kimberly Fleming, jazz keyboardist Tyron Hamilton, hip hop gospel artist Da Prince and gospel artist Aaron Mason, as well as appearances by local celebrities and elected officials.
