  • On May 2, 2009, the U.S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club will host a Military Appreciation Event in Nashville in association with Rolling Thunder, Inc., Combat Vets Motorcycle Assoc., the American Legion Riders and the Patriot Guard.
    Each year, U.S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club hosts fundraising events, which benefit both veterans and active duty troops.   • Scottish Terrier and Friends Fun Day on May 2, at the Ward Agricultural Center in Lebanon, TN. This is a fund raiser for Scottish Terrier Rescue.
    Activities begin at 1:00 and last until about 6:00. We will eat lunch about 2:00, please bring a dish to share. There will be games for the dogs and interactive agility, earth dog and obedience demos plus a seminar by Raquel Winn, local author and licensed Pet Message Therapist, and there will be a Blessing of the Animals at 5:00, all breeds are welcome.   • The Friends of Warner Park will hold their annual Children's Picnic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 2 at the Warner Park Nature Center on Highway 100.
    The event will feature music, arts and crafts, and nature-related fun and games targeted toward families with preschool and younger elementary children. Activities include bird banding demonstrations, face painting, puppet shows, scavenger hunt and hikes. There will also be a silent auction. Scheduled events include performances by Youngtown a Bluegrass Band and Green on the Vine. Families may bring their own picnics or purchase picnic lunches that will be available for sale during the event. The event is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $5 per child or $20 maximum per family. The Friends of Warner Parks is an organization dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of the Warner Parks.   • Please join the community for the Spring Nolensville Women's Show on Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Nolensville Recreational Center with indoor and outdoor shopping booths.
    Admission is free and the show is held rain or shine. The show is an event showcasing craft and retail vendors from Nolensville and the surrounding areas and supports local groups and organizations through fundraising.

  • "Walk Me Home...To The Place I belong" 5K Fundraiser will be held on May 2, 2009 at the Bicentennial Capitol Mall in downtown Nashville.
    The 5K fundraiser will raise awareness about foster care issues, promote fostering, and raise funds for state and local organizations, and the National Foster Parent Association Individuals and teams raise money before the event and then walk the five-kilometer course before pinning a blue ribbon to a tree to symbolize the more that 500,000 American children in foster care.   • The 7th Annual Laughter Remedy event, benefiting the Alzheimer's Associating, Mid-South Chapter, will take place on Thursday, May 7, 2009 beginning at 6 p.m. at The Factory at Franklin.
    We are pleased to have Steve Flatt, President of National Healthcare Corporation, and his wife Patsi serve as our Honorary Chairs for the evening with entertainment provided by world famous comedian Henry Cho. Event Description: Laughter Remedy is a fun-filled evening including dinner, a silent auction, Family and Professional Caregiver of the Year awards and a comedic performance. Laughter Remedy is held at The Factory in Franklin. Dinner will be catered stations by "A Dream Come True Catering."   • Community High School Band's Annual Open Spring Car Show will be held May 9, 2009.
    Car registration will be held between 8 a.m. and noon. Judging begins at noon. Awards will be given at 3:30 p.m. Custom cars to classics and everything in between. $5 BBQ dinner; Live band and vendors.   • Lock Box Self-Storage to host 3rd Annual Tenant Yard Sale on Saturday, May 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Rain or Shine! Free Food, Free Drinks, Music, Prizes and Bargains!
    Come by 12337 Lebanon Road (Between Needham's Nursery and Rice's Ham Store) in Mount Juliet. Once again Lock Box will give back to the community that has allowed them to service self-storage needs in Mt. Juliet, Lebanon, Old Hickory and Hermitage for the past 13 years. "This is our 3rd year to do this event and it has turned into a huge success. It is a way for us to thank our tenants and show the community our appreciation by offering Free Food, Prizes and Music.   • Cottage Cove, a non-profit after school program for the children in the Vine Hill area near the Nashville Fairgrounds.
    This service is provided free of charge to the parents. The program is having a beach party and bonfire at Nashville Shores on May 9 (May 10th rain date), which is a fund raiser to benefit the children. There will be food and organized games, with prizes.   • Addicted To Decorating Seminar, Saturday May 9 located at the Holiday Inn Plaza in Brentwood. 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm.
    The daylong seminar will be divided into a Fundamentals of Decorating morning session and an Advanced Concepts afternoon session. Participants can choose to attend one or both sessions.   • The Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra (NPO), a volunteer community orchestra under the direction of Chris Norton, Professor of Music and Director of Percussion Studies at Belmont University, will be offering a series of two concerts featuring the works of Respighi, Rossini, and Copland.
    On Tuesday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m., the orchestra will perform at Belmont Church, which is located at 68 Music Square East on Music Row. The repeat concert in the pair will be held Sunday, May 17 at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary of Belmont Heights Baptist Church, located at 2100 Belmont Blvd on Belmont University’s campus. Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances, Suite 2, Rossini's La Gazza Ladra Overture, and four selections from Copland's Rodeo (Buckaroo Holiday, Coral Dance, Saturday Night Waltz, and Hoe-Down) will make up the concert.   • Country for a Cure benefit concert featuring Jeff Bates and The Broussards will be held at the Tin Roof located at 1516 Demonbreun St., Nashville, TN 37203 on Tuesday, May 12 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    Suggested donation of $15 per person. One hundred percent of the proceeds benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

  • The 60th Annual Franklin Rodeo takes place May 14 - 16, 2009 at the Williamson County Ago Expo Center in Franklin.
    For 60 years, this pro rodeo has raised funds for community causes in Williamson County. Get off the couch and come on out to see pro cowboys and cowgirls compete in bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, roping, and women's barrel racing!   • The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law's Mobile Law Office will be stopping in Nashville to provide free legal assistance and representation to low-income veterans on Friday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Easley Community Center, located at 1000 Edgehill Avenue.
    Project SALUTE will also be in Nashville, Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Operation Stand Down Nashville, located at 1101 Edgehill Avenue. This stop is part of a nationwide tour of the Mobile Law Office, created to provide veterans legal aid on federal benefits issues.   • In order to celebrate the rich diversity among the school and community, West End Middle School will hold its 2009 Festival of Cultures on May 15 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at West End Middle School and Elmington Park.
    Our theme this year is "The Global Traveler", and we will help bring to life for the students and community the true nature of the global world we live in, and how we interact with many people all over the world in ways many don't even think about. The festival will feature many vendors, cultural entertainment and educational displays.   • BOY SCOUT TROOP 133 5TH ANNUAL CAR SHOW, May 16, 2009 will be at the Volunteer Fire Department, 3199 Long Hollow Pike, Hendersonville (across from Beech Schools).
    $15 entry fee for the first vehicle, $10 each additional entry. No spectator fee, but donations will be appreciated.   • Sunday, May 17, at 11:30AM, the First Apostolic Church, located at 265 Broadmoor Street across from Maplewood High School, will break ground for a new sanctuary to be completed in early 2010.
    The new addition will seat 400 on the floor, 200 in the balcony, and include a large platform with two multi-purpose screens at each side. Everyone is invited to come be a part of this celebration.   • The Greater Nashville Chapter of APA invites you to Attend the Monthly Luncheon Meeting on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at noon at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel.

  • A Community Awareness Block Party for East Nashville, will be held at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 23 at Cleveland Park on North 6th between Cleveland Street and Vernon Winfrey Avenue.

  • 2009 Backfield in Motion 2nd Annual Sporting Clay Shoot will be held Friday, May 29, to Saturday, May 30 at the Tennessee Clay Sporting Complex, 1100 County Hospital Road, Nashville, TN 37218
    The event starts 3 p.m. Friday ands 7 p.m. Saturday. This fun-filled weekend is a fundraiser for Backfield in Motion, a non-profit organization that combines academics and athletics to help inner-city boys in Metro Nashville reach their highest potential. The Sporting Clay Shoot will use a five-person team format, and teams can be made up of male, female, youth, adult, pro-class shooters, beginners or a combination.   • The Tour de Cure cycling event raises funds to support the essential efforts of the American Diabetes Association to find a cure for this deadly disease.
    Each mile you ride and every dollar you raise supports diabetes treatment, education and advocacy for adults and children, touching their lives in critically important ways. The event is on May 30 in the beautiful Springfield, TN area with several rides for all experience levels - 6.2 miles, 31 miles, 62 miles, and 100 miles.   • Restoration Community Outreach, Inc. presents the 2nd Annual SKILL Benefit Concert, Silent Auction, and Expo featuring the Mercy Road Quartet on Saturday May 30, 2009.
    The Benefit Concert is to raise money for the SKILL Program, a christian rehabilitation program for those with addictions to drugs, alcohol, gambling, or any other addiction they may have. There will be a Silent Auction featuring items from local businesses and the Tennessee Titans. Games, crafts, and inflatables will be featured in the Kid's Zone. Food will also be available for purchase at the event. There will also be a Partner Ministry and Business Expo. We are still taking sponsors for the event.
