NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A Nashville documentary film, airing across the country on cable television, is getting national attention.
VIDEO: 'Faces Of TennCare' Gaining National AttentionThe film is titled "The Faces of TennCare" and spotlights the people affected by the state's health care changes.Nashville's Molly Secours’ film tells the stories of people terminated from TennCare.
Nearly 200,000 people have now been cut from the state funded health care coverage. Most of those cut are now unable to afford health insurance.Secours’ idea for the film was sparked after a doctor's visit of her own in which she had a clean bill of health."On the way back from the doctor, it hit me, ‘What if something was wrong with me, and (I’m) not covered?' (I) would have been really out of commission and really in trouble, " said Secours. The 13-minute film airs nationwide throughout January on the Documentary Channel.Like it or not, agree or disagree with TennCare policies, this is how the country will see this state's health care system. It gives the public an uncovered, up-close-and-personal look at those affected."I see my family member, person across the street, person in the store next door. These people are just like us, and a lot of people are just a paycheck away from being one of these people," said Secours. She said this is not a political film, considering it instead a call to action through information from the Tennesseans touched and terminated by change."And I challenge anybody to view this film and not feel compelled to do something," said Secours.Related Links:
