WOODBURY, Tenn. -- A search in Cannon County continued into Wednesday evening for a missing elderly woman with Alzheimer’s disease.
Viella Estes, 85, was last seen in her car Tuesday morning by a neighbor on Sally Parton Road near Woodbury. When Estes never returned, the neighbor went down the road to check on her, but instead found Estes’ car abandoned with her purse still inside.
Members of the community, along with authorities from the Cannon County Sheriff’s Department, have been searching for the woman since Tuesday night. They were searching on foot, by horse and using helicopters to scour the area near Short Mountain.Even though Estes' family said she has Alzheimer’s disease, they said she can still get around fairly well and often drives alone.
