NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Beautification efforts continue as Belmont University gears up for Oct. 7’s presidential debate, and the area surrounding the university is involved in the cleanup. The Belmont Neighborhood Association asked residents to make yards, streets and entrance signs presentable.

"We want everyone that comes to our campus to be as impressed with our neighborhood and our community as they are with our campus,” said Pamela Johnson, Director of Marketing and Special Events at Belmont.

Johnson said the university has been holding meetings with its neighbors about the debate.

Metro Public Works said as far as cleanup goes, it won't be doing anything out of the ordinary. It will do regular trash and litter pickup, as well as mowing the grass and routine road maintenance.

On campus, fire hydrants are being painted, the grass is being mowed and litter will be picked up just before the event.

Road closures are not being released yet, though Belmont Boulevard will be closed.
